In this lecture we give an introduction into new concepts of space-time variational formulations of time-dependent partial differential equations. Examples are the heat and the wave equation. The focus will be on the formulation and mathematical analysis of space-time variational formulations and on the stability and error analysis of related space-time finite element methods.
